— Container volume: divide your container volume in gallons by 5 and multiply by 25 to get the approximate minutes to 100°F. A 10-gallon container takes approximately 50 minutes to reach 100°F from cold tap water.
— Starting water temperature: the benchmark assumes a typical cold tap water starting temperature. If the starting water is already warm (e.g. cool tap water in summer), the heating time will be shorter. In winter, cold ambient temperatures reduce heating speed — the same 5-gallon container may take 30–35 minutes in cold weather.
